What we do

We have openings for two people to come plug into our Eco-Village project beginning early 2024 (could be a couple or not, families or singles).
The Bezaleel Israel Eco-Village is a 20-acre sanctuary seeking devotees, not in any religious sense, although it is often a spiritual quest that drives someone to embrace permaculture. We are looking for people who are devoted to creating rural self-sufficiency for themselves through permaculture in community. We offer an environment free of rent or mortgage and ask only for active mindful participation.
We seek a farmer and a builder to each contribute about 20 hours a week. Please note: This is not an employment opportunity. It is a lifestyle choice. Folks here are self-employed.
We seek a farmer/herbalist/horticulturalist/propagator/permaculture practitioner, or a wannabe, who loves experiencing soil, plants and sharing the surplus and who can commit to put in the time and intention required. You would join the two farmers already here to collectively tend the gardens, pastures, food forest, livestock and seed bank and share equitably in the fruits of that labor in the form of food, money and the incalculable value that comes from living the life.
We seek a builder who’s into permaculture whose primary role would be contributing to building and maintaining the Eco-Village and farm infrastructure including structures, machinery, equipment, irrigation and energy production facilities. You would work closely with Bezaleel Israel who terraformed and outfitted the land over a thirty-year period.
Farming and infrastructure activities would be done in accordance with permaculture ethics and principles and will contribute to the assembly and implementation of the Eco-Village’s permaculture design.
After a successful 60-day trial period you would become an apprentice Village member until the end of the year, renewable, with permanent residency potential.
Please see our website, bzfarm.org, for more details.

How to join

Applying for an apprenticeship at the BZ Farm is a two step process.
First there is a two-question pre-application. From those applications we will choose folks to answer a few more questions, get references and do a phone or Zoom interview.
If we accept your application as an apprentice candidate, we will welcome you to join us on the farm.
You can join us as a volunteer and come to work as your schedule allows (providing your own shelter if you plan on staying overnight) or you can join us as a prospective apprentice/Collective member.
If you’re interested in the apprenticeship, then after a successful 60-day trial, you will become a Level 1 Apprentice and a voting member of the Village Collective until the end of the calendar year.

Learn Permaculture Where it's LIVED

Setting. VerdEnergia Pacifica is situated in the mountainous region of Puriscal, Costa Rica. While the Puriscal area is largely deforested, we have worked hard to reforest our corner of the neighborhood and are happily situated in a lush jungle oasis with fresh spring water, lots of fruit trees and a few humble waterfalls. Our area is largely untouched by tourism and our local community embodies a true Costa Rican campo environment. Students have access to our facilities, including a yoga/dance studio, community library and a spring-fed swimming pool. Pricing. Course starts at $1775. A non-refundable $400 deposit is due upon your registration (this is not an additional fee). The rest is paid upon arrival in cash. We calculate course prices based on where you choose to stay, and what you choose to eat. A camping spot (with your own gear), full vegetarian (vegan optional) meals and daily yoga/meditation is included in the basic cost of the course. The price of beds (private and dorms) and meat with meals is additional. We are happy to offer a few subsidized or discounted spots to Costa Ricans and other residents of Central/South America. Please inquire here for information about discounts. Sleeping Arrangements. We have a range of accommodations available, including private rooms, dormitory beds, and camping spots. It is important to understand that our infrastructure is integrated with the surrounding natural environment; all rooms are open-air. • Camping spot (No additional cost) • Dorm bed (+$15/night) • Private room (+$30/night) We cannot supply tents or bedding for campers. Hammock space is very limited, so if you plan on bringing a hammock, please plan accordingly. Food. Each meal features farm-fresh, local ingredients, many of which are grown on the project site. • Vegan (No additional co
