About the Community

What we do

Toiora is an urban (10 min walk from the main street of Dunedin) co-housing community made up of 24 units and 40+ adults & many children. Twenty-one of the homes are built to Passiv-Haus standard – around 21 degrees (C) inside all year round, & only using 10% of normal energy consumption. Toiora (which means ‘Wellbeing’) is the name gifted to the community by the local Māori iwi Ngāi Tahu (this was all Māori land originally of course) & references the local stream running nearby (called Toitu).
