What we do

WE BELIEVE (an incomplete brief overview!)

❧ That all oppression is connected — and we seek to live in a way that aligns with our anti-oppressive position

❧ That we have a duty to all of the Earth’s inhabitants to reduce our impact on the environment and biodiversity — and aim to produce the majority of our own food and energy in a way that’s ecologically sound, support workers and vulnerable communities by intentionally sourcing what we consume, reduce our reliance on harmful and toxic products and consider the after effects of our consumption, and restore the land back to a more naturalized state

❧ In ethical veganism and animal liberation — and we treat our non-human animal community members as equals, acknowledging that unlike most humans, they are unable to consent

❧ In disability justice — including by recognizing the broad spectrum of our members’ contributions and working together to prioritize accessibility (e.g. by taking COVID-19 precautions such as masking indefinitely outside of our community)

❧ In racial justice — including working to break down barriers to intentional community and acknowledging that for white people this necessitates ongoing and active education and action. Currently all six members of the community are white but it’s important for us to hold empowering space for cofounders of color/the global majority

❧ In queer, trans, and intersex liberation — including working towards ensuring community members have stable, long-term access to HRT outside of society’s brittle medical system

❧ In fat liberation — including acknowledging that fat people face structural barriers to accessing healthcare and are often excluded from animal and environmental justice movements

❧ In celebration of non-traditional family and relationship structures, including adoptive and/or foster families, chosen families, queerplatonic partners, and polycules.

❧ In community care — and keep each other safe using enthusiastic consent, non-violent communication, community meetings, and an opting out of cancel culture

❧ In being open to new (or often, old!) ways of doing things — and a culture where learning and skill-sharing is encouraged and to change is to grow

❧ That capitalism is killing us — and we take a nuanced stand against the the tech industry, attention economy, and pharmaceutical industry who are all too often distorting what it means to be alive in order to maximize shareholder profits

WE DREAM OF (another incomplete list!)

❧ Eco-friendly, connected living (though not adhering to a specific spirituality)

❧ Veganic permaculture farming, agroecology, and planting a native food forest

❧ A micro-sanctuary for rescued and disabled farm animals, especially birds

❧ Building self-sufficiency with the goal of less dependency on brittle systems

❧ A patient, communicative, tight-knit group who share values, responsibility, knowledge, and sometimes space

This listing is very (very) much TBD, but please reach out if you resonate with any of this ♥
