What we do

Creating a Cohousing Community

Sunnyside Village Cohousing is a forming cohousing community in Marysville, about 35 miles north of Seattle. Set on five acres, Sunnyside is rooted in collaboration, environmental stewardship, and healthy living.

Land development began in September 2023, and our village is steadily taking shape. Fifteen of our 32 privately owned, detached two- and three-bedroom cottages are already spoken for. Shared amenities will include a welcoming multi-use common house, community workshop, greenhouse, organic gardens, orchard, walking paths, and protected woodland. We actively invite individuals and families to join us, and we value the richness of intergenerational living.

Where Community Comes First

At Sunnyside Village, community truly comes first. We know our neighbors, look out for one another, and build relationships grounded in trust, care, and mutual support.

Every voice matters here. We make decisions together, talk things through as a community, and shape the kind of neighborhood we want to live in. Diversity is welcomed and celebrated — Sunnyside is a place where people can belong just as they are.

Building a Sustainable Community

We are planning today with tomorrow in mind. Sunnyside’s homes and common spaces are designed to high standards of sustainability and energy efficiency, guided by architects and developers who specialize in intentional communities.

Our common house will serve as a hub for daily life, and electric vehicle charging stations will be conveniently located near shared parking areas. Caring for the land and reducing our environmental footprint are core commitments we share.

Creating a Balanced Life — Home, Work, and Play

Sunnyside Village is designed to support a balanced, connected life. Residents will have the flexibility to work from home, use shared workspaces in the common house, or commute to nearby urban centers. Social life naturally centers around the common house, where neighbors can share meals, collaborate on projects, or simply enjoy time together.

Living in the Pacific Northwest means the outdoors is part of everyday life. Our community sits between the waters of Puget Sound and the peaks of the Cascade Mountains, surrounded by forests, wetlands, creeks, and marine environments. Opportunities for outdoor recreation abound—from hiking and kayaking to skiing, swimming, and quiet walks in nature.

How to join

Joining Sunnyside is meant to be welcoming and unhurried. We want you to have time to get to know the community, meet future neighbors, and decide if this feels like the right place for you—while we make sure new members arrive feeling informed, comfortable, and excited.

First Step – Learn:

Begin by getting to know us. Join a Thursday evening Zoom information session, come to an open house or community event, or visit the site if you’re nearby. This is a chance to learn how cohousing works and see if Sunnyside’s spirit resonates with you.

Second Step – Explore:

If you’d like to go a step further, you can become an explorer. Explorers sit in on community meetings, see how decisions are made, and connect with a buddy who can answer questions and share what day-to-day community life is like.

Third Step – Join:

When you’re ready, your household can apply for membership. Members take part in decisions, join working groups (circles), and help shape the future of Sunnyside Village together with their neighbors.
