What we do

We are a married couple who own a regenerative ranch in northwestern Kansas. We operated as a traditional agriculture ranch for years, but discovered holistic management and regenerative agriculture practices over 5 years ago and began the switch. At this point in time we raise grass-finished beef and hope to add sheep, goats, pastured pork, poultry, and bees in the near future. We believe regenerative agriculture is the solution to feeding an ever-growing world while healing the environment. We see ourselves as early adopters of the food production system that will replace the current industrial agriculture system.

We are blessed with a beautiful piece of property. Located along rugged hills in the Saline River valley north of Hays, we enjoy nearly 4 miles of river, much of it bordered by incredible limestone cliffs up to 150′ high. In 2020 we opened a small campground on our property, using the “Hipcamp” app to connect directly with people looking for a different type of camping experience. Much to our surprise, we quickly became very popular and loved the business. We began expanding the campground and registered as an official agritourism business. We currently have 9 primitive sites, 2 RV sites, and 2 glamping tents, and a small wedding venue. We are planning to grow to 12 primitive sites, 12 RV sites, 6 glamping tents, 6 (or more) tiny homes/long term RV sites, and a covered wedding venue that will accommodate 250 guests. The campground is very popular and has been a great way to introduce people to regenerative agriculture. The property is uniquely suited to be home to a thriving hospitality business as well as a thriving regenerative ranch.

Holistic management is a concept pioneered by Allan Savory, whose 2014 Ted talk about reversing desertification (and thereby curing climate change) really kicked off the regenerative agriculture movement. As I went down the path of applying regenerative ag concepts to my ranch, it became impossible not to apply holistic management principals to the rest of my life as well. That has caused me to change not only how I approach agriculture, but also my opinions on health, education, politics, and spirituality.

The last several years of turmoil has convinced me of the need to look for a different approach to much of what compromises civilization, a holistic approach. As I became aware of the intrinsic faults in the industrial food system, I realized that the entire system needs to be replaced with a regenerative, or holistic, model. Watching the challenges unfold in the world since 2020 have convinced me of the need to reimagine nearly every paradigm that compromises our lives. Nearly ubiquitous, high-speed interconnectivity is enjoyed by the a huge number of humans on earth, and along with that should come the ability to reimagine how we group and govern ourselves, our approaches to our health, money, entertainment and culture, how we educate our young and not-so-young, and what we strive for as a species.

Our intention is to form a community of individuals who believe a better world can be obtained through the application of a holistic-type approach to all of the issues we face, and who are willing to invest in supporting the movement at the “ground” level. We’re looking for people of all types who recognize and share our goal developing a community of residents (full or part-time) located on an extensive, beautiful piece of land that can act as a model for agriculture communities going forward.

If you would like more information please contact us for a complete packet. We also encourage people to go to our Hipcamp page or website for more information (and a lot more pictures that showcase how amazing this property is!). There are hundreds of reviews on Hipcamp that really speak to what we are trying to do here. We’d also be happy to schedule personal visits (we call them camping trips) anytime!
