About the Community

What we do

We are an urban housing collective in Baltimore, Maryland founded in 2004. Send us an e-mail to learn more and start a conversation!

Our Mission

We are committed to cooperative living and collective ownership in urban spaces. We are working towards a world where sustainable living, social justice, and artistic creation are central values. We share labor, living costs, food, and friendship. We join together to create a community that is fair, equal, and diverse. We are building a model of living on land where space is shared and respected, not dominated or owned. We practice direct democracy and make decisions by consensus. We find ways in which to keep the collective affordable and open to people of diverse incomes. We support the activism of community members and of the local and global community. We share resources in order to minimize consumption, we use ecologically sound building materials and household practices, and we practice urban permaculture. We support local food co-ops and organic farms. We welcome and share art and provide the space to make it. We gather around healthy food that every collective member takes a part in making several times a week. We nurture open and caring friendships, and respect each individual’s life choices. We practice nondiscriminatory conflict resolution and actively challenge power dynamics.
