What we do

We are 2 adults and 2 children. In early 2020 we purchased 60 wooded acres. The land is in a rural area 40 minutes south of Richmond, VA. We have multiple non-permanent shelters and live off-grid. We spend most waking hours outside. We harvest rain water, use solar electricity, and cook with propane. We grow food on hugelkultur berms. We use hand tools instead of motors. We read, we cook, we play music and board games. We ride bikes, we hike, we have campfires. We find new plants, tracks, and mushrooms. All of us are constantly learning and growing.

We believe in simplicity. We are center seeking. We strive to live lightly on the earth, connected to the earth, connected with other humans, connected to all living things. We value openness, curiosity, and diverse perspectives. We are frugal.

We would like to form a community here. The land will be held in common by all community members. It is important to us that the community be family-friendly, income-sharing, off-grid, and egalitarian.

We are seeking co-founders. Our backgrounds are in education and farming. We would love to meet people who share our interests as well as people with different and complementary skill sets. If you want to connect, please reach out!

How to join

Right now we are seeking co-founders, which is going to be a bit different from a membership process in an established community. Co-founding comes with the thrill of creating something, but also a lot of time, energy, and challenge. If that sounds like something you could be into, write us an email. Depending on your location we can then meet in person or set up video calls to get to know each other. We want to create a stable and lasting community, so there will need to be a bit of a “dating” period in which we see how we get along and if our values are compatible. We need diversity of perspectives and talents to take on this project. We need folks who are open minded.

Together with our co-founders, we will develop the specifics of the membership process.
