What we do

We are a group of a dozen people who are concerned about the climate and the state of the earth and wish to come together in a loose alliance of like minded people to prepare land in multiple locations where we can live near each other, support one another in practical and agreed upon ways, learn from one another, and share resources where it makes sense and where people desire to do so (this will be an individual choice for each person).

We are looking to buy land in at least two locations but we wish to create a network with other existing communities interested in the same goals, and support each other via that loosely allied network.

We are looking at locations in WNC (which is closest to happening), N Calif, Willamette Valley area, OR, Finger Lakes area, NM, Crestone and other areas in the US. Happy to ally with people in other parts of the world. Location is determined by a number of factors; one of them is that there are towns and/or neighbors nearby friendly to our cause. We may settle in existing intentional communities focused on similar goals, towns that have such a focus, or group-purchased land sufficient to achieve our goals. Such a purchase should allow each member legal autonomy and control on a portion of the land, with clear and simple entrance and exit agreements, and with some shared resources where it is practical and desired, as agreed upon by that group.

Some of us are ready to move and purchase rapidly, others will take more time. Our core group has done a fair amount of work on this, others are interested and may become part of the core. Again, it is a loose alliance whose goal is to be mutually beneficial to one another along common interests, defined by the individuals involved (a network at this stage, more than a community – though the intent is multiple communities).

We have a google docs folder with a variety of info in it, we meet periodically to discuss strategy and resources, and members are working on other projects which support this effort in direct or semi-direct ways.

We feel that it’s past time for people with consciousness, care for the earth and care for people, and also practical skills and views who are willing to do the work, even people who haven’t considered living in intentional communities but share our values of care of the earth and care of people, to come together in physical locations and help each other deal with challenging issues. We are focused on practical application of food growing, off grid living, localization, and mutual support. We are not a community of support for people working through a lot of personal issues or who desire to decompress from society though that can happen as a “side effect” of what we are doing. Working on strengthening the nearby community as well as our own will be a focus.

Potential members would be interested in contributing to the work (online right now) that is happening to the degree you are able to do so (we understand people are living full lives meanwhile – so are we, which is one reason we want to work with others, so we can share the load and not duplicate efforts where it is practical to do so). You can share your skills, knowledge, passions, and connections. To the degree we come together, we are stronger and better.

We appreciate the tools of sociocracy, networking of networks, systems thinking and permaculture, indigenous wisdom, NVC, and any other tool that will help us achieve these goals.

If you’re interested, contact us. We will share some of the work we’ve done and set up a group zoom meeting where we can meet further.

Our Vision

We are an alliance of like minded individuals who care for the earth and for people, and wish to support each other to set up “Life Pod” nodes in different parts of the country, to network and learn from one another, and to focus on healing the earth, while creating or supporting strong local food, economies, and communities.

How to join

We will get to know each other via phone, zoom, email, and/or personal visit. We have regular zoom meetings and a google docs folder that goes into more of what we’re planning. We will have a website soon.

Basic expectations or agreements for members

We are currently located on a 10 acre permaculture farm north of Tampa, FL. We may be open for visitors or to use the farm as a meeting place for further discussion. Write to us if you’re interested in connecting. The best way to connect for now is online, but if you’re in the area, we’re open to meet in person (always richer).

Primary decision-making authority

  • Small Leadership Group

A few people (not elected by the broader community) make the major decisions.

Governance structure

  • Collaborative/Horizontal

Power and responsibility are shared relatively equally among members.

Economic model

  • Independent Finances

Members maintain separate personal finances with minimal sharing.

Economic scenarios for this community

  • There is a labor obligation
  • Members typically need to have their own job or other personal source of income to cover their expenses while living in the community?

Additional economic information

Labor: Encouraged or suggested
Members with pre-existing debt: Yes (some debt)
We are interested in a variety of economic arrangements including cooperative business models for those interested, and various ways of supporting each other economically. We have infrastructure that can contribute to that.

The point is, let’s explore all the ways in which we can create beneficial connections and help each other through external challenges.

The below answers are for where we currently live. We will strive to be “off grid” locally, to the degree our needs are met by ourselves and the local community for vast amount of necessities.
