What we do

We are getting ready to open our THOW (tiny house on wheels) community in coastal North Carolina this summer. We are creating a community where you park your THOW in order to live with integrity as neighbor and friend while practicing social and ecological responsibility. We purchased 14 acres of land in 2021 and have been working with the county, an engineering office, and a landscape architect specializing in sustainability to develop it. We are actively building, are actively taking reservations, and expect to open this summer with an expected official grand opening around Labor Day. Everyone is invited to explore if this is a place for them to live (with weekly, monthly, and yearly options). We are especially reaching out to neurodiverse or neurodivergent individuals and couples who are looking for a place to belong. We have 20 sites for THOWs – reach out if you have a different kind of home on wheels – with a large community garden, a greenhouse, chickens and other critters, all of which is taken care of by all of us. Other ideas include a co-working space for digital nomads, a mushroom barn (the kind you buy at the grocery store), and a workshop. If you bring special skills and interest, the hope is to make room for them. Everyone contributes as they are able. The property is about 15 minutes from the beach and about 10 minutes from shopping and medical facilities. The homes will be parked surrounded by trees with a good bit of privacy. Follow us on Facebook or sign up on the website for newsletters. Email us to request a reservation agreement, rental information, and other paperwork

Our Vision

Noble Commons is a small community where you bring your THOW (tiny house on wheels) to share a simple life close to nature while having access to modern amenities as needed and desired. We are especially inviting neurodiverse or neurodivergent individuals and couples.

How to join

Contact us and explore if we are a good fit. We are currently taking reservations for individual sites with move in expected in September of 2025. We would love for you to come visit. As there are more people interested. The earlier you become a part of the process, the more likely we are able to integrate your ideas and suggestions as we finalize association agreements and amenities.

Basic expectations or agreements for members

There is a home on the property with a guest room that we can make available for people considering joining us.

Primary decision-making authority

  • Small Leadership Group

A few people (not elected by the broader community) make the major decisions.

Governance structure

  • Collaborative/Horizontal

Power and responsibility are shared relatively equally among members.

Economic model

  • Independent Finances

Members maintain separate personal finances with minimal sharing.

Economic scenarios for this community

  • Members need to pay fees, dues, or similar to live there on a per month or per year basis
  • There is a labor obligation
  • Members typically need to have their own job or other personal source of income to cover their expenses while living in the community?

Additional economic information

Monthly fees/dues: $20
Labor: Encouraged or suggested
Members with pre-existing debt: Yes (some debt)
The goal is that everyone contributes in some way. We are very aware that those ways will differ. We also understand that there are different expectations regarding the amount of rent a spot in a THOW community should cost. Brunswick county, NC, is growing quickly and housing is expensive; a two bedroom house easily rents for $1500-2000, a spot to park an RV in an RV park is between $70-100 a night or $750-1600 a month, depending on the season. For 2025/26, our yearly rent will be $6,000, plus $150 for utilities per month (water, sewer, trash, internet). Monthly rates will be $700 in the winter and $1000 in the summer and include utilities. While that may still sound expensive to some, it would be less than half of what you typically pay to live in this area. If you want to join the community, but finances are a concern, please reach out anyway – where there is a will, there is a way.
