About the Community

What we do

Mount Madonna Center was founded in 1978 as a nonprofit entity for the practice and teaching of Yoga, as inspired by master yogi, Baba Hari Dass. Today the Center is a thriving, multi-generational residential community, a conference and retreat venue, and home to the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, Mount Madonna Institute, Mount Madonna School, and Sri Rama Foundation. Mount Madonna offers a safe, nurturing environment for people to study, learn, play, and work together. Mount Madonna provides context for experiential learning, allowing both personal and collective exploration for those seeking a path to peace. An economy of giving, sharing, service, and care offers a viable alternative to the separation and isolation of much of modern existence. Life at Mount Madonna is both active and reflective, where those things that have heart and meaning structure everyday life.

Our Mission

Mount Madonna Center (MMC) is a mountaintop yoga retreat center supported by a residential community of practice and is the largest project within the Hanuman Fellowship. By providing a healthy, supportive container for transformation and reflection, MMC works to fulfill the Fellowship’s mission: Hanuman Fellowship is organized, as inspired by the example and teachings of master yogi Baba Hari Dass, to promote the principles and practice of Yoga by means of Sadhana (spiritual practice), Karma Yoga (selfless service) and Satsang (supportive community), as well as other spiritual disciplines and learning that foster personal and spiritual development and wellness and that create an environment for the attainment of peace.
