What we do

Kriya House is a house in the suburbs, but it’s way more than just that! We are blending the comfort of a home with the vibrations of a meditation center. Our current members practice kriya yoga. One of them operates a farm (land leased 5 minutes north) with chickens, rabbits, a CSA and flowers. Another member is a media production specialist, shooting photos and videos, recording audio, and generally being a kick-ass creative. The third and fourth tenants are multipotentialites, with income coming from both horticulture and caregiving, as well as helping out on the farm. We aim to collaborate as a household, though our finances are all separate. We contribute to the mortgage which belongs to a generous and inspired friend.

The home has been a host to many events, and will continue to do so! The backyard is fenced is slowly transfomring into a permaculture haven as well as an outdoor meditation and ceremonial space. There is a market in this area to host regular kirtan, and many spiritual seekers gather at our various events where people take turns at the focal point as speakers, and we occasionally host workshops and ceremonies. We play music, meditate, get sunshine, and eat well every day.

Our two-story home features two common ‘living room’ areas (one on the main floor and one in the basement), and a fenced-in garden (in progress to becoming a permaculture haven, but not very far along as of this writing). Our goal is to create a meditative sanctuary filled with nourishing or healing plants, sitting areas, and sacred art. Oftentimes we have rooms available (around $800 p month) because the home has five(ish)bedrooms total. We value clean, mindful living and prioritize maintaining an inviting, peaceful space. Housemates share responsibilities to keep common areas tidy, by cultivating the habit of cleaning up as you cook, and finishing projects one starts. We are an alcohol and tobacco free home.

>>>>>>>Who we are seeking<<<<<<<<<<

We welcome sincere seekers, mindful practitioners, and spiritually curious individuals who value meditation, yoga, and intentional  living. This is the ideal space for those who appreciate the teachings of Kriya Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, Buddhism, Hermeticism, or any religious path of interest that bears good fruit.

We are not a space for casual renters but for those who genuinely want to live in a conscious, connected community. If you’ve ever dreamed of living in an ashram but value personal freedom, access to civilization, and diversity in thought and belief, Kriya House may be your perfect fit.

>>>>>>>>>>Living at Kriya House<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Opportunities to engage in discourse about meditation and a generally sattvic lifestyle in an environment that supports your journey, surrounded by people who share this value. We go to nearby temples to be guided in life and meditation, as well as for connecting with more like-hearted individuals.

Participation in community events like farm volunteer days, kirtans, potlucks, and workshops, ceremonies, or being included in envisioning opportunities towards financial freedom.

A balance of connection (in the kitchen and common areas) and personal space.

>>>>>>>>>>>This is what we’re all about:

Yoga Life: We center our daily lives around our meditation practice, and we take a holistic view on the 8 limbs of yoga. We cultivate inner peace and attunement with the divine. We play music, cook food, go out, have jobs, navigate relationships, and are involved with the world in all its material essence, but we cultivate the sattvic lifestyle to the best of our ability.

Balance of Structure and Freedom: We maintain a peaceful, mindful home environment without rigid dogma, allowing room for authentic expression and diverse opinions that spark personal and collective growth. There are as many religious perspectives as there are humans on earth. We leave room for all of them to hold the truth, because of the necessity of inclusivity within diversity. Yoga is the structure we follow in order to walk the narrow path of goodness to liberation. Within this path there is freedom to experiment with various techniques, diets, lifestyle choices, and modalities in order to grasp the divine.

Inclusivity and Diversity: We welcome seekers from all spiritual backgrounds who are sincere in their pursuit of truth and self-realization. We enjoy talks about hermeticism, advaita vedanta, buddhism, the connection between spirituality and physics, and what’s happening in this wild time we’re living in. We are a haven for those who are called ‘crazy’ by their family, where we can speak about things outside of the mainstream without fear of judgment.

Garden: We believe in the sacredness of nature, the simplicity of homegrown meals, the necessity of resilient systems, both for our survival and our health, and we aspire to grow a beautiful garden centered around regenerative practices. We have collaborations with other organizations in the area to bring regenerative land care practices to urban, suburban, and rural lawns everywhere.

Conscious Community: We have had some joyful experiences and some epic gatherings.

If you resonate with our mission and values, we invite you to reach out and share why you feel called to join Kriya House. Please email us with a detailed introduction about yourself, your spiritual path, and why Kriya House feels like home for you. We look forward to connecting! After an initial conversation, we welcome you to visit, meet the community, and explore if this is the right space for your spiritual journey.

Our Vision

Kriya House is a spiritual sanctuary and intentional community dedicated to fostering deep meditation, conscious living, intelligent discourse, and spiritual growth. We are committed to inclusivity, personal and collective transformation, and creating a harmonious space for living simply while on the journey of self-discovery, personal development. We are active participants in this collective evolution. We are also committed to bridging the gap between conventional religious organizational perspectives and modern, hip, psychedelic-informed insights. We are inclusive and interested in diverse spiritual traditions because we believe all religions point to the sacred, the difference being only in semantics attempting to describe the ineffable. Our mission is to embody divine qualities of peace, love, wisdom, intelligence, calm, and joy.

Join us in the mountains of Western North Carolina

Coweeta Heritage Center/Talking Rock Farm is located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Coweeta is located in a beautiful and diverse temperate rain forest. It feels very remote here yet we are just 12 miles from Franklin, NC. Winters can be mild. Coweeta is blessed with springs and a stream, pristine forests, and abundant wildlife. Power is provided by a hydro-electric system which is not connected to the grid. An organic garden and trout pond provide healthy food that is also shared with the local community. Hiking, kayaking, and other outdoor activities are just out the back door. Coweeta is looking for others who would like to join together to form an Intentional Community embracing the principles of Voluntary Simplicity. Simply put (no pun intended): We wish “to live simply so that others may simply live.” It is a recognition that nature provides us with valuable services and resources that we can use to enrich our lives. Utilizing local resources, appropriate technology, and working cooperatively, we can discover creative ways to meet our needs as “directly and simply as possible.”. An example of this, in the tradition of many Indigenous People”, is to gather, and use wildcrafted foods as part of our diet. There is great joy in going to nature’s grocery for our sustenance. Voluntary Simplicity is based on the recognition that “very little is needed to live well” and that “abundance is a state of mind.” Living lower on the economic ladder allows us more time and freedom to pursue other life goals: community and social engagement, family time, artistic or intellectual projects, more fulfilling employment, political participation, sustainable living, spiritual exploration, and more. According to the Voluntary Collective, “The grounding assumption of Voluntary Simplicity is that all human beings have the potential to live meaningful, free, happy and infinitely diverse lives while consuming no more than an equitable share of (the world’s) resources.” We affirm the need for a work/life balance, the right to a healthy environment and healthy food, and healthy community relationships supporting a diverse population. It is our responsibility as engineers of a new generation to make the changes that we want to see happen and pass this on to the next generations. We can’t wait for someone else to do this important work. Voluntary Simplicity is a quiet revolution that can change the world. As one person said, “we must be poets of our own lives and of a new generation.” We hope you will join us here at Coweeta or elsewhere on our journey to a healthier and more sustainable future! Temporary housing is available in a 27 foot trailer trailer with attached deck next to a creek while we build additional housing. Your basic living expenses (shelter, basic food items, power and water) are met through our market garden or other fundraising projects that you will participate in. You are expected to contribute a given amount of your time and energy to help grow our community and meet our financial obligations. Possible future plans include establishing a retreat center for healing our earth and each other. Work includes organic gardening, construction projects and other community building activities. Come join Coweeta and learn how to live lightly on the land and enjoy the Earth’s bounty!
