About the Community

What we do

We are saddened to share that Harrisonburg Cohousing has made the decision to sell our land and then dissolve the LLC. Juniper Hill Commons has been a cherished dream for some of us, a committed community for some, an all-consuming project for some. With its welcoming, peace-making culture, thriving small-city amenities, vibrant universities, and beautiful natural resources, many of us still believe that Harrisonburg, VA is uniquely suited to support intentional, connected living. We regret that we couldn’t make it happen, but hold the hope that cohousing will come one day soon to the Shenandoah Valley. We would like to express our gratitude to: + Jim Herr and Sam Carter at Herr & Co, for meeting our needs with their construction expertise + Randy Seitz at Blueline, for his hours of brainstorming and for providing a space for info sessions + Gil Coleman at Coleman Engineering, for being such a friendly, personable civil engineer + Peter Lazar, for getting us through the zoning process and providing initial designs + Park View Mennonite Church, for generously allowing us to meet in the Fireside Room so often + The Cohousing Association of America as the epicenter of this life-affirming concept, for the learning, the advertising, the connections + The Foundation for Intentional Communities, for engaging with us to broaden our understanding and outreach + Ann Zabaldo at Mid Atlantic Cohousing, for including us in your merry band of communities and supporting our efforts + Shelly Parks at CoVision Consulting, who mentored us in all things marketing + Katie McCamant and Erin Harris at Cohousing Solutions for advice and counseling, both early and late in our lifespan + Grace Kim at Schemata Workshop for Common House design advice + Ros O’Brien and Steve Gilman, for early marketing guidance + Misty Boos for expertise in marketing & hands-on social media + All the forming and established cohousing communities who partnered with us along the way + The many seekers who gave us a look And most especially + All the members and explorers who were with us for a time

Our Mission
