About the Community

What we do

HARCH is a forming retrofit housing cooperative based around the Hidden Alley Ranch Community Garden in a fully built neighborhood in St. Louis. There are approximately sixty residential units immediately adjacent to the community garden, which is the focal point for the community. As of January 2020 there are two buildings controlled by the forming housing co-op with 4 independent homes/apartments. Three other households immediately adjacent are involved in community activities, and several dozen throughout the neighborhood are involved in the community garden and mealsharing.

Our Mission

Our mission is to foster lives of connection and well-being for 12-20 diverse households in the St. Louis metropolitan area through living in an ecologically sustainable way, sharing our time and resources with each other, and building strong, healthy relationships within our group and with the surrounding community. We are a cooperative residential community embodying shared values of social justice, affordability, diversity, and ecological living.

How to join

We have a minimum six-month residency during which time the new resident pays a fair market-rate rent and participates in community activities and meetings. After that point there is a review process, and if approved the resident transitions to membership where they gain equity in the co-op and participate in decision-making.
