What we do

Fox Hill Bruderhof is made up of a lively mix of families and singles, young and old, who live, work, and worship together. Bruderhof children attend our elementary school, and adults work within the settlement, including a workshop for Community Playthings. Plough Publishing House is also run from here. The Fox Hill Bruderhof community is set among rolling fields that used to be horse and dairy farms. The sprawling property has two small lakes, low areas, and high lookouts with expansive views of the Hudson Highlands to the east; to the west we can see the Catskill Mountains and Shawangunk Ridge. On the property you’ll see several apartment buildings and communal buildings, such as the dining hall, the laundry, the elementary school, and the Community Playthings workshop. Roads made of paving bricks connect the residences and other buildings. We do a lot of walking!

Fox Hill Bruderhof is a living, working intentional community, not a retreat center or spiritual getaway. During your visit you’ll be hosted by one of our families and participate in our daily life, from joining the workforce to taking part in meals and worship.

We are convinced that a life in church community is the greatest service we can offer humanity and the best way we can proclaim Christ. To be part of the Bruderhof movement is not a lifestyle choice. It is an answer to Jesus’ insistent call to humankind as expressed in the Gospels, especially the Sermon on the Mount. While we follow the communal traditions of the early church, we believe our way of life is a compelling answer to the problems of contemporary society, with its emphasis on wealth and self and its resulting isolation, conflict, and inequality.

Through community, we have experienced Christ’s transforming love. He makes the impossible possible: for ordinary and flawed men and women to live together in forgiveness and mutual trust, as brothers and sisters. It is his Spirit that calls Bruderhof members to a life of love where work, worship, mission, education, and family life are brought together into a single whole.

mini community

laundry on site no smoking off-street parking I am looking for someone (or possibly a couple) with construction skills/basic home knowledge (and likes to garden), who can help me transform my property to be more useful…look up “the self-sufficient backyard” online. My husband an I are both 60 but he is on disability-physical pain issues and legally blind the past 4 years. We have an 18 tear old nonverbal DS son, and are both Christians. We need someone who is low-key, has references, a solid work ethic and transportation…excess belongings will require storage. The house is old and needs to have a few issues fixed. There is a room available while a tiny house/livable shed you would build to stay in is done but you would have use of the house kitchen and bathroom. I will want to add more small buildings (as can fit) and greenhouses to share produce with each other, the town and for sale. I would be paying for the materials of coarse but I want to be frugal and look for stuff at re-use it centers and design to best usage. The town is within 30-40 minutes of Salina/McPherson/Hutchinson that have more employment opportunities if you are someone from out of the area. I will explain more details to a seriously interested party. This is for someone who needs to cut expenses and/or use his or her skills to barter for a place to live, possibly some food, and nothing else, (like anything sexual)…I found I needed to make that clear! Other options can be discussed such as co-ownership or???.
