About the Community

What we do

The sacred land that allowed us to actualize and live symbiotically with is in the Sangre De Cristo range and the Wahatoya Mtns. at 8500 ft. Since establishing the non-profit Earth Mountain Education Farm in 2004 we have been developing a 40 acre basecamp and surrounding 480 acre cooperative owned land through Permaculture and education. We have been hosting work-trade and residential internship folks for over fifteen years, yet would like to establish a long-term community. So far there are 3 families living completely off-grid on their own properties. Earth Mountain Education Farm is a central cottage industry for the community including, organic farming, nursery, urban farms, goat dairy, environmental education programs, camps, WWOOFing opportunities, and permaculture education. We envision 3 or more households who are passionate about a simple permaculture lifestyle, education, and community. At 8500 ft we are definitely living a high mtn. life in the forest remotely, with the closest town of Trinidad 1 hour away. Most structures are naturally built, cob, cordwood, and strawbale. It has been an amazing journey raising two boys, born on the land and homeschooled and know it is a special gift to raise children in this environment. We hope in coming together we can establish more community principles and strength for each other.
