Seven-week online workshop January 17 – February 28, 2026 Most conflicts in intentional communities and other member-led groups look like simple interpersonal conflict. But intentional community researcher, author, and consultant Diana Leafe Christian identifies three different sources of conflict — not only simple interpersonal conflict, but also what she identifies as “structural conflict” in her book Creating a Life Together, as well as the conflict arising from what she calls “especially challenging behaviors.” In this workshop you’ll learn practical, workable solutions successful communities have used to resolve or contain each type of conflict. This workshop is for people in communities (or members of food co-ops, activist groups, and so on) who may have felt confused, baffled, or even hopeless about ongoing conflict in their group and seek grounded, field-tested solutions. The Wise Acres Community is a cohousing neighborhood in Kitsap County, started in 1990. We steward most of the land together, while each maintaining our own home. In Wise Acres, we gather for community dinners and other events. We tend a shared garden, common house, hot tub & sauna. We look out for each other, make decisions by consensus, and each take on a community job. The community is walking distance from the shore in a friendly town. A 1-bedroom apartment is available. The apartment is the daylight basement below the main level of the house. The kitchen/living/dining room has a large picture window and natural light from above. The bedroom has an attached bathroom and a modest walk-in closet. Adjoining the full kitchen is a separate storage / laundry room. At about 600 sq ft, the apartment works great for a smaller household. In addition, there’s a room available in the main part of the house. The common spaces in the house are shared, including the kitchen/dining room and sun-lit living room with wood stove. The bedroom has windows on two sides and an attached bathroom. We are a friendly English family of four living on a beautiful, remote property between Sebastopol and Occidental. We are looking for a grounded, proactive individual or couple to move into our yurt and join our daily rhythm. We live a screen-free, Waldorf-inspired life with our two sons (9 and 7) and our labradoodle puppy, ‘Rainy.’ Our boys are “real characters”—creative, high-energy, and robust. We’re looking for a partnership with someone who can help us maintain a calm, organized, and fun home. The Role & Schedule (20 Hours/Week Baseline) Your rent, utilities, and occasional family meals are covered in exchange for a consistent 20-hour weekly commitment: Childcare: 2x per week (4 PM – 8 PM) and Saturday mornings (9 AM – 1 PM). Outings, basketball, soccer, hiking, and bedtime routine. Cooking & Tasks: One mid-week block for bulk healthy meal prep. Ownership of boys’ laundry, dog walking, gardening, and basic property/pool maintenance. House-sitting: Keeping a watchful eye on the house and puppy when we are away. What We Offer Living Space: Private, standalone yurt with beautiful views over Sexton Valley. It has a “treehouse” feel, a new outdoor kitchen, a private bathroom, and a heated outdoor shower. Community: Access to 1.5 acres, including a hot tub and pool, with opportunities for gardening and mutually supportive living. Terms: No rent and no utilities. Overtime is paid at $25/hour.
