What we do

The room is free and furnished. You’d serve as a Community Catalyst. Private bedroom (shared bathroom with one other person).

Free access to a hot tub, sauna, pool, and a large common room with tables.
Beautiful setting in the Alta Mesa part of Santa Barbara, near the ocean. 100+ residents living on the property.

You help activate and grow community (e.g., organizing and promoting events like yoga classes, meditation groups, and community talks) by putting fliers on cars/doors and verbally encouraging residents to attend and participate. You’ll also use Meetup and hand out fliers around Santa Barbara to reach beyond the community.

You should be happy and willing to devote a few hours each day to outreach, coordination, and relationship-building to support the above. Also includes light cleaning of the shared bathroom and kitchen.

I was a therapist in Colorado and recently moved to SB. While this initiative was requested, the community isn’t paying for it so I’d be covering your portion of the rent. Thus, part of your role will involve generating leads and scheduling clients for my counseling practice (outreach, networking, and invitation).

The search is for someone personable, organized, and proactive. You should feel comfortable talking to people and encouraging participation. Ideal candidates are interested in wellness, community-building, psychology, and spirituality.

March serves as a trial month. If things go well, there’s potential to expand the role and include profit-sharing in my professional practice.

If you enjoy bringing people together and turning “unused potential” into living community, this could be a great fit.

March is a trial period to see if our energies align.
There is no guarantee of residency beyond 3/31; extensions depend on the success of the trial.
Looking for a self-starter who is proactive, organized, and carries a welcoming energy.

**You get:**
• Private bedroom with panoramic mountain views
• Hot tub, sauna, pool, and communal gathering hall
• Shared bath/kitchen
• $0 rent / $0 utilities

If you are a facilitator of connection who enjoys the business side of wellness as much as the spiritual side, reach out with a bit about your experience. No pets in March, but if extended, a dog may be possible.

**Note:**
If you reply with only one sentence, there won’t be a response.
This role requires effort and follow-through.

Thanks!

Our Vision

This is open to be redrafted continually with members, but currently:

Your only job is to receive thoughts and feelings without comment. If you accept that is your job, sure you risk mayhem, but you are also grounded in the present. It’s unlikely that this will be your full-time job, but it’s a practice with aim of having this job each moment.

Jill Bolte Taylor had a stroke and temporarily lost her left brain. She felt bliss and unity, but perhaps our job is to bring compassion to the left brain and not demonize it as some spiritual teachers have done.

All you’re here to do is to be present for this moment. If a thought comes, say, “He’s having a thought”.

The mind wants to keep you safe so seeks to know what is/was, or may go… wrong/right.

What if you’re only here to see what’s arising now and register it without comment? If you accept this job, you’re fully present to do the

radical/ simple task of seeing “what’s happening now without comment”.

Life is simple if your only job is to see what’s happening now.

Your job: waiting to see what thought/emotion is here now

Ideally, we bring compassion to the desire, aversion, fear,

guilt, regret, anger, aggression, attachment, agenda.

If we can simply receive every thought / emotion without rushing to Suppress,

Agree, or Disagree (SAD)… to simply receive

every thought / emotion seems lazy … being irresponsible

I know it’s absurd to claim our only job is to receive thoughts and emotions without rushing to SAD. Maybe, bring compassion. This isn’t training. This is just a practice.

Join us in the mountains of Western North Carolina

Coweeta Heritage Center/Talking Rock Farm is located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Coweeta is located in a beautiful and diverse temperate rain forest. It feels very remote here yet we are just 12 miles from Franklin, NC. Winters can be mild. Coweeta is blessed with springs and a stream, pristine forests, and abundant wildlife. Power is provided by a hydro-electric system which is not connected to the grid. An organic garden and trout pond provide healthy food that is also shared with the local community. Hiking, kayaking, and other outdoor activities are just out the back door. Coweeta is looking for others who would like to join together to form an Intentional Community embracing the principles of Voluntary Simplicity. Simply put (no pun intended): We wish “to live simply so that others may simply live.” It is a recognition that nature provides us with valuable services and resources that we can use to enrich our lives. Utilizing local resources, appropriate technology, and working cooperatively, we can discover creative ways to meet our needs as “directly and simply as possible.”. An example of this, in the tradition of many Indigenous People”, is to gather, and use wildcrafted foods as part of our diet. There is great joy in going to nature’s grocery for our sustenance. Voluntary Simplicity is based on the recognition that “very little is needed to live well” and that “abundance is a state of mind.” Living lower on the economic ladder allows us more time and freedom to pursue other life goals: community and social engagement, family time, artistic or intellectual projects, more fulfilling employment, political participation, sustainable living, spiritual exploration, and more. According to the Voluntary Collective, “The grounding assumption of Voluntary Simplicity is that all human beings have the potential to live meaningful, free, happy and infinitely diverse lives while consuming no more than an equitable share of (the world’s) resources.” We affirm the need for a work/life balance, the right to a healthy environment and healthy food, and healthy community relationships supporting a diverse population. It is our responsibility as engineers of a new generation to make the changes that we want to see happen and pass this on to the next generations. We can’t wait for someone else to do this important work. Voluntary Simplicity is a quiet revolution that can change the world. As one person said, “we must be poets of our own lives and of a new generation.” We hope you will join us here at Coweeta or elsewhere on our journey to a healthier and more sustainable future! Temporary housing is available in a 27 foot trailer trailer with attached deck next to a creek while we build additional housing. Your basic living expenses (shelter, basic food items, power and water) are met through our market garden or other fundraising projects that you will participate in. You are expected to contribute a given amount of your time and energy to help grow our community and meet our financial obligations. Possible future plans include establishing a retreat center for healing our earth and each other. Work includes organic gardening, construction projects and other community building activities. Come join Coweeta and learn how to live lightly on the land and enjoy the Earth’s bounty!
