Safety, Sexuality, and Navigating Violations in Community

REGISTER NOW

Join us for this 2-hour workshop to explore common misconceptions around sexual assault that are particularly impactful for intentional communities and learn communication tools to support people in being assertive, courageous, and vulnerable.

We all want to feel safe and held in our communities, particularly with the parts of us that are most vulnerable. Our sexuality holds exquisite beauty and deep wounding. In this workshop we will explore safety in community, particularly as it relates to our sexuality, and learn communication tools to support being courageous in our relating.

Navigating sexual violations in community is rarely simple, easy, or a quick process. Without shared definitions of sexual assault, clear community agreements, processes around accountability, and collective understanding of consent practices get messy quick. The murky reality of assumptions, coercion, manipulation, and at times violence, compound the challenges confronting a community when violations of consent and sexual assault occur.

Facilitated and taught by Amanda Rain of Speaking the Unspeakable®. She engages the unspeakable within and between us with heartfelt empathy and fierce compassion. The integrity of the space we co-create together is the foundation of our ability to feel supported in being courageous in our vulnerability, open in our hearts, and curious with our minds as we participate in conversation with each other and learn new tools to support our processes..

What this will not be: a detailed deep dive into community agreements or accountability processes, everything you need or should know as a community dealing with sexual assault, or a full workshop on consent. What this workshop will be: an opportunity to learn tools that can be applied to each of these efforts in ways that best serves your community.

During this session you will:

  • Learn myths and facts of sexual assault
  • Hear from past experience navigating sexual assault in community
  • Learn simple, yet powerful, communication tools
  • Practice building the muscle of empathy

Meet the Presenter

Amanda Rain

Amanda founded Speaking the Unspeakable® to inspire the courage to meet our challenges and empower our lives through effective communication. A mix of passion, training, and real-world experience has given Amanda a unique perspective on how communication can be utilized to support our general self-growth and evolution, while facilitating our ability to have a greater impact on our world. The study of rhetoric first captured her attention while debating the college circuit form 200-2-2004. She learned that communication can be both effective and powerful with the right combination of simplicity, skill, and strategy.

Amanda distills what is complex and challenging into clear understanding. She supports people in getting to the heart of what’s important and how to effectively move forward. Amanda has worked on sensitive issues such as consent culture within sexuality and intimacy, sexual assault and trauma, and diversity, equity and inclusion. Her analysis of our shared experience in these areas is dynamic, nuanced, and insightful.

Amanda inspires the willingness to face our challenges, while confronting them with skill. Her voice offers hope for the spirit and medicine for the soul.
