Regenerative Process and Living System Design for Cohousing Communities

Join us for this informative and interactive 2-hour workshop to explore the the theory and examples of regenerative development and living systems design thinking, and how this can be applied in practical ways with your own housing communities.

A regenerative approach begins with the premise that all human activities have the potential to feed new life, health and wealth into the myriad ecological, economic and social systems that they touch. The key to do so is to understand the unique socioecological context that a project or initiative aims to impact, rather than applying generic, one-size-fits-all thinking to our work.

This workshop explores how housing can be reoriented towards a living systems approach – a world view that respects nature and advocates for a vital role for humanity in regenerating life. We’ll be looking at this form the context of the community-led and collaborative approach of co-housing communities, where both residents and the wider community stakeholders need to build the necessary skills, knowledge, connections, and resources to be able to succeed at creating and sustaining regenerative co-housing.

During this session you will:

• Gain an understanding of regenerative development and principles
• Discover the regenerative potential of your project/community and place
• Understand how to apply living systems design to your project/community to increase the social, economic and ecological benefits
• Learn the five ways to increase community wealth through your housing community

Meet the Presenter

Zola Rose

With a passionate for housing, social and economic justice and environmental sustainability, Zola started Common Ground in mid-2019 to enable a regenerative approach to achieving social, economic and environmental outcomes through housing developments.

Zola has a Bachelor in Sociology/Anthropology and a Masters in International and Intercultural management with a focus on community development, facilitating social change and training of trainers. On the housing side, she worked at Habitat for Humanity in South Africa for 4 years managing funder relationships and events and has been championing housing solutions in New Zealand for four years including sitting on the committee of the Society for Alternative Housing Development NZ and its housing policy sub-group and the committee of the Society for Cooperative Housing NZ. Zola is currently a Regenerative Practitioner course participant with Regenesis, has completed the Ecovillage Design Education course with the Global Ecovillage Network, and achieved the Permaculture Design Certificate and has taught permaculture for the past 10 years.
