About this Workshop

Get your community project on solid legal footing! This workshop will cover some of the legal basics for starting or sustaining and intentional community. We’ll examine the importance of good governing documents; specifically equity, governance, and buy in/buy out provisions. We’ll look at the need to understand zoning, building, and land use regulations. And we’ll examine the practical implications of different legal structures for holding land collectively.

We will specifically focus on understanding:

  • The importance and structure of equity and buy out formulas.
  • The basics of zoning and building regulations and how they impact community structure.
  • Several common forms of collective land holding.
