Addressing Harm in Community

REGISTER NOW

How can we acknowledge and repair harm when it happens in community?

In this session we’ll discuss the different types of harm, how to restore relationships, and ways to look at the larger context in which harm happens.

Crystal developed her ‘The Five Whys’ model – literally asking why five times – to understand the root causes of a problem instead of just focusing on the surface level reasons. With diversity work, you can use this tool to understand the larger context in which harm has occurred.

You will learn:

  • About the types of harm, from microaggressions to assault
  • How to call in, or call out, people who cause harm
  • How to approach healing harm with an understanding of marginalization
  • How to use The 5 Whys model to contextualize harm and prevent it from happening again

If you are ready to dig deeper into fostering an inclusive community, this session is also a great introduction to Crystal’s 5-week Fundamentals of Anti-Oppression in Community course.

Loved by Community Builders

Teri’s presence, warmth, poise, experience and clarity. I quickly felt at ease and confident that she knew what she was talking about, and could share the material effectively, while also managing the group format. – Jeffrey B

What a beautiful gift to our intentional community builders and leaders! FIC’s programs provide a way for thinking and concerned people to collaborate for solutions to our multitude of global crises. Thank you FIC! – Terri Garcia

I am constantly impressed by the down-to-earth practicality of the FIC workshops combined with the philosophical questions that are so vital for us to explore. I’m grateful for the excellent planning and delivery of the workshops by skilled and inclusive presenters, who create a space that is both welcoming and invites participants to challenge existing ideas and world views. Well done and thank you FIC. – Claire Ogden
