What we do

The community is founded on an agreed alignment with a Spiritually based universal consciousness that embodies the principles of love, peace, respect, harmony and Oneness.  Love is our way – The Heart Center Sanctuary is a place for peace and tranquility.  A place to turn within and enter into that stillness and silence that is our home and true sanctuary.  This is a place where judgement disappears and our religion becomes Love.  We embrace the goodness in all of us, and therefore respect different belief traditions.  At the core, we believe we are all One and through contemplation all separation is made whole.

After being home and the sacred land of the Cherokee Indians, The property became home for a school, from K-12, from 1949 to 1978.  Many years past and it sat abandoned after being sold at an auction and, then, it was reborn in 2007 when the rehabilitation of the school buildings began.  it is now a pristine, wonderfully secluded, 25 acre parcel of wooded land and resources, with mixed-use buildings:  Residential and Commercial, as well as, a restorative retreat for the mind, body, and spirit.

The property is surrounded by national forest, spread over 3 mountain ridges and is close to beautiful rivers and lakes, as well as, The Smoky Mountains National Park, Nantahala National Forest, and Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, just to mention a few of the area natural destinations.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” Henry David Thoreau

The Heart Center Sanctuary has some great infrastructure already established, including roads, clean mountain water, 3 cabins, large gym, the Sacred Choice Cafe, Meditation facility, tiny home spaces. yurts, community garden and picnic area.

Our Vision

Our mission is to create a unique, spiritual, nature-loving, family-friendly, and self-sustainable community, where we can foster an environment of love, peace, sharing, giving to community, each other, and retreat visitors.  We wish to embody, enjoy, explore, and relax, in a loving, healthy, and caring environment.

The co-housing, co-living community is a deeply desired project and dream that is in its birthing stage.  We are looking for creative, committed, responsible, dependable, and hardworking pioneers, who wish to make a difference in the world, while at the same time living a balanced, peaceful, happy, and comfortable life

True North CoHousing Community Seeking Founders

True North is a small, women-centered intentional community where self-directed, purposeful women share space, resources, and genuine commitment to each other’s wellbeing. We are building something that is greater than the sum of its parts — a life that is richer, more secure, and more meaningful because we are living it together. Our Vision A community where no one falls through the cracks. Where aging is something we navigate together rather than alone. Where the people around you notice when you’re struggling, celebrate when you’re thriving, and show up — not because they have to, but because that’s simply who we are to each other. We are building this as a tiny house village — a model we chose deliberately. Many intentional communities require crazy buy-in sums, putting them out of reach for most women navigating life on a single income. We believe that financial accessibility isn’t a compromise — it’s a value. Your home will be yours: as simple or as appointed as fits your life and circumstances, sized right for the life you are living now and the one you are building toward. We live lightly on the land and invest heavily in the relationships that make life worth living. We’re currently forming our founding group — the women who will help shape what this community becomes, where it lands, and how it lives. Not ready to be a founder but feel this in your gut? We want to hear from you too. There’s a place for you here at whatever stage feels right. https://www.truenorthcommunity.info/ [email protected]
